Tulisa's debut album struggles

Tulisa Contostavlos may struggle to make the top 20 with her debut album, despite her high profile role on The X Factor, and performing to millions of viewers at the weekend.

The Female Boss was released on Monday but it is understood to be just outside the top 20.

This comes after the singer has already claimed a number one single drawn from the album, Young, which came out earlier this year.

Her albums with N-Dubz all fared better, with debut Uncle B peaking at number 11, and the two follow-ups both achieving top 10 places.

Appearances on The X Factor would at one stage virtually guarantee a huge hit, if not a chart-topper. But the ITV1 programme has been shedding viewers, with up to 40 per cent of the audience slipping away in the space of two years, since Tulisa joined the judging panel.

She performed her new single Sight Of You during Sunday night's results show. Yet the appearance was not enough to boost her sales, with The Female Boss behind new releases by Alfie Boe and Jools Holland.

It had been at number 17 based on one day's sales but is now believed to have slipped further and the official midweek placing will be disclosed later today.

The eventual chart position will be announced on Sunday by the Official Charts Company.

The X Factor reaches its climax the same night when the winner is crowned.
