Gaga names wheelchair after fan

Lady Gaga is wheelchair-bound after having surgery on her hip, and has named it after one of her fans.

The Born This Way singer was forced to cancel the rest of her US tour dates last week after being diagnosed with synovitis - a chronic condition which causes joints to swell.

Gaga posted a picture of her wheelchair on Twitter and wrote: "This is Emma". She then told one of her fans, Emma C from Wisconsin, "named after you lady".

The singer has been pictured visiting Starbucks in Chicago in the chair.

The 26-year-old star had reportedly tried to hide the suffering caused by her condition from the crew on her Born This Way Ball tour, but eventually had to admit she could no longer perform as she was in so much pain.

Last week she told her fans: "I barely know what to say. I've been hiding a show injury and chronic pain for some time now, and over the past month it has worsened. I've been praying it would heal.

"I hid it from my staff. I didn't want to disappoint my amazing fans. However, after last night's performance I could not walk and still can't.

"I hope you can forgive me, as it is nearly impossible for me to forgive myself. I'm devastated & sad. It will hopefully heal as soon as possible. I hate this. I hate this so much. I love you and I'm sorry."

The world tour began in South Korea last April and was due to finish at the end of March in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It is not yet known if Gaga will re-schedule the cancelled dates.
