Pharrell: Timberlake hits for Jacko

Pharrell Williams has revealed that tracks on Justin Timberlake's debut album were originally meant for Michael Jackson.

The music producer and songwriter, who worked on the songs with his partner Chad Hugo, admitted that he offered them to Justin for his 2002 album Justified after Michael turned them down.

He told Vulture: "Justin Timberlake's first album - all those songs, with the exception of Like I Love You, were songs I made for Michael Jackson.

"His manager didn't like them. Somehow I think Michael didn't like them either, though. Because when I finally met him, he sang all those songs back to me and said, 'Those songs should have been for me'. And he just laughed... He rolled on the floor, kicking like a kid, laughing.

"But he sang those songs to me and he sang them just like Justin. So he kinda knew, but at the time, they (the songs) just weren't good enough. But they were songs for him."

Pharrell - who is at number one with Robin Thicke and TI's Blurred Lines and also featured on Daft Punk's chart-topping single Get Lucky - admitted he originally wrote I'm A Slave 4 You for Janet Jackson, which Britney Spears took instead. Kelis' Caught Out There was originally meant to be for Busta Rhymes.

"I played him that beat and I was sure he was gonna love it. And he was just, like, reading a sports magazine, listening to these tracks. I was honoured, because it was Busta. He was like the king to me," he recalled.
