The Vamps open new theme park ride

Teen heart-throbs The Vamps have opened a new £1.2 million theme park ride - before treating hundreds of fans to a live set.

The four-piece rockers were cheered by a mainly female audience as they strapped into Air Race at Drayton Manor Theme Park in Staffordshire.

Bradley Simpson, James McVey, Connor Ball and Tristan Evans appeared to thoroughly enjoy the experience, taking to social media to show their appreciation.

Bass guitarist Connor posted an online video of himself and bandmates on the ride showing them screaming, while he later joked: "We almost died."

The band later played an acoustic set for appreciative fans.

The ride, made up of four-seater aeroplane-like carriages, takes thrill-seekers through loops, dives and accelerations of up to four times the force of gravity.

Colin Bryan, the park's group managing director, said: "Air Race has been a highly anticipated addition to the park, and the atmosphere here today has reflected this.

"The Vamps really helped bring the event to life with a fantastic acoustic performance, making this something that will be remembered for years to come."

The pop group's Facebook page has 2.2 million likes, boasting 1.1 million followers on Twitter.

Their first single Can We Dance, which charted at No 2 in the UK following its release in September last year, has had more than 18.5 million views on YouTube.

American singer Demi Lovato recently featured on the band's latest release, Somebody To You.
