Cheryl reaches singles landmark

The song title may imply a certain nonchalance but Cheryl Fernandez-Versini will be cracking open the champagne after becoming the first British female solo artist to have five number one singles.

Her latest song, I Don't Care, went straight into the charts at the top spot, ousting Ed Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud.

The 31-year-old, who also had four number ones as part of Girls Aloud, eclipsed fellow former girl-band songstress Geri Halliwell and Rita Ora, who have both had four singles reach the top spot.

But the X Factor judge has a long way to go to claim the ladies' crown outright - queen of pop Madonna is way out in front with 13 UK number ones, Rihanna has eight and Kylie has seven.

I Don't Care is the second single to be released from Cheryl's fourth album, Only Human, which is out tomorrow.

Sheeran, whose track Thinking Out Loud made it to number one after spending 19 weeks in the top 40, falls to number two while Meghan Trainor drops to number three with All About That Bass.

Completing the top five, American John Legend's All Of Me rocketed from 26 to number four after his appearance on X Factor while Taylor Swift's Shake It Off drops from three to five.

It was not all bad news for Sheeran as Thinking Out Loud broke the record for the most audio streams in a single week, clocking up 1,638,000 streams in the last seven days.

There was also triumph in the albums chart for the songwriter as his second studio album X reclaimed the top spot from Taylor Swift's 1989, which slips to number three.

X has already spent eight weeks at number one earlier this year and is currently the biggest-selling artist album of the year.

DJ Calvin Harris, who has had to pull out of tonight's MTV European Music Awards due to illness, saw his fourth studio album, Motion, debut at number two.

His chart-topping 18 Months album also re-enters the charts this week at number 21.

Dutch violinist Andre Rieu is new at four with Love In Venice while Sam Smith completes the top five with In The Lonely Hour.
