Sheeran's album x sells a million

Ed Sheeran is celebrating his second million-selling album after his latest release hit the sales landmark.

The album x, which spent two months at the top of the charts, was the follow up to his debut +.

Sales figures from the Official Charts Company show it sold more than one million copies across all formats.

That puts it alongside other million-sellers including Emeli Sande's Our Version Of Events and Adele's 21.

The singer, who also celebrated a US number one with x, said he was "buzzing" at the news.

Ben Cook, president of Ed's label, Atlantic Records UK, said: "Ed is a phenomenal artist at the top of his game and his album reaching this impressive milestone so quickly only serves to underline that x is Ed at his original and inventive best - we're absolutely thrilled for him that it joins + in the ranks of the million-sellers and are delighted that so many people love it as much as we do."

Ed, who recently announced plans to headline Wembley Stadium with just his guitar and an effects pedal, claims the secret to his success is that he appeals to fans who feel they do not fit in.
