Kylie Minogue to switch on Oxford Street Christmas lights

Kylie Minogue will kick start the Christmas festivities in London by switching on Oxford Street's iconic Christmas lights on Sunday. The Spinning Around singer, who is releasing her own Christmas album in November, will join Capital FM hosts Dave Berry and Lisa Snowdon to light up the bustling shopping street.

The 47-year-old will take to the stage outside Pandora's flagship store by Marble Arch at 5.30pm, where a traffic-free shopping event means thousands of revellers will be able to take to the streets for a special Switch On concert, in partnership with Pandora.

Crowds are in for a treat as along with Kylie's appearance there will also be performances from Foxes, X Factor winner Ben Haenow and runner-up Fleur East. Gabrielle Aplin and cast members from Matilda The Musical will also take to the stage during the festivities, which will be broadcast to a global audience for the first time ever via Periscope.

Confirming the news, Lisa Snowdon said: "The Oxford Street Christmas lights switch-on is a magical event. I can't wait to reveal the beautiful Christmas lights to the huge crowd who gather every year."

Co-host Dave Berry added: "This event officially marks the start of Christmas for London. The atmosphere on Oxford Street at the lights switch-on is always fantastic and it is great to be a part of the Christmas countdown once again."

Kylie follows in the footsteps of a number of stars to take part in the switch-on ceremony, including Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, who was given the honour of illuminating the famous shopping street in 2014 alongside Jess Glynne and Rixton.

This year's décor is set to include 1778 baubles and an incredible 750,000 LED bulbs, along with 445 never-seen-before golden baubles inspired by falling snowflakes.
