NewsAugust, 25 The Eagles overtake Michael Jackson to claim the best-selling album of all timeThe Eagles have overtaken Michael Jackson to be named as the artists behind the best-selling album of all time. Their greatest hits compilation, entitled: Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975,has racked up sales or streams of more than 38 million since its release in February 1976, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) said on Monday. The RIAA recalculated sales of the best-of collection, and certified the LP as 38x platinum. The tallying process used by RIAA includes album sales, streams and downloads in the US. It does not include randomised streams. One album sale equates to 1,500 streams of an album or 10 song downloads. The announcement means that Thriller, released in 1982 and selling or streaming more than 33 million times - or 33x platinum - is now in second place. Third is another Eagles album, Hotel California, with 26 million. Their top-selling record features rock classics such as Take It Easyand Witchy Woman. "We are grateful for our families, our management, our crew, the people at radio and, most of all, the loyal fans who have stuck with us through the ups and downs of 46 years," said Don Henley, of the Eagles. "It's been quite a ride." The Eagles formed in Los Angeles in 1971 and broke up in 1980. In 1994, they reunited with original band members Henley and Glenn Frey. Frey died in 2016, but the band still tours with members who include Henley, Frey's son Deacon, and country star Vince Gill.
