An announcement was made on the band's Facebook page on Friday (July 15), calling Paul a "true pioneer and legend". Alongside a photo of Paul, the caption read: "The Ryder family and Happy Mondays band members are deeply saddened and shocked to say that Paul Ryder passed away this morning. A true pioneer and legend. He will be forever missed. We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time. Long live his funk x." Tributes have been pouring in from fans and fellow artists across social media following his death, with Shaun posting the same message to the band's Twitter page. The Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown wrote on Twitter: "Rest in peace Ryder. A great friend, a great musician, a great fella big love to Amelia Jacob Sonny Chico and the family and band love ya longtime Pabs X." Ex-Oasis guitarist Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs tweeted: "Thoughts with you all Shaun, sad news xxxxx", while Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh wrote: "Terrible news Shaun. All the best wishes to your family". UB40's Ali Campbell tweeted: "Condolences to you and yours Shaun! Stay strong, Big Love." Paul and Shaun were the founding members of Happy Mondays back in 1980 before adding the rest of the band, Mark "Bez" Berry - Shaun's sofa pal in Celebrity Gogglebox - and singer Rowetta in 1990. The bassist died hours before the band was due to perform at Kubix Festival in Sunderland. No cause of death has been announced as of yet. Gogglebox airs on Friday nights at 9pm on Channel 4.
