Shane MacGowan's widow considering releasing book of his unpublished songs

Shane MacGowan's widow Victoria Mary Clarke is considering releasing a book of the musician's unpublished songs.

The 57-year-old journalist and author told The Guardian on Monday that she will probably release a tome of the late Pogues frontman's material following his death on 30 November aged 65.

"He'd be constantly thinking of words and needing something to write them on. It could be a receipt, your bank statement, your diary. You might go to a restaurant and he'd be writing all over the napkins and asking for more napkins," she recalled. "I guess at some point we will be doing a book of his unpublished stuff because there are quite a lot of unpublished songs."

Since his death, there has been a growing campaign to make Fairytale of New York by the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl this year's Christmas No. 1.

Clarke told the publication that MacGowan would "probably" appreciate the posthumous chart-topper, even though he was bored with the festive tune.

"I think he was just bored with people focusing on that one song, because he was like, well, I've written so many other ones," she explained.

Elsewhere in the interview, Clarke assured fans that she was "doing fine" since her loved one's death because she has been communicating with him already and feels like he's "still here".

"He's already been helping with stuff today, even in a very practical way," she stated. "I had to do a lot of wrapping scarves, communicating with customers, all the admin stuff that I hadn't been able to do since the funeral. And so I said to him: 'Look, I'm really, really stressed about this - I need your help. I want you to make it go really smoothly.' And it worked! I do believe that people can help you from beyond."

MacGowan was laid to rest in Nenagh in Ireland on 8 December.
