NewsJanuary, 14 Jason Donovan admits 'It's very difficult to just stop' drinking alcohol
Jason Donovan has confessed he finds it hard not to drink too much. The former Neighbours star has to make a conscious effort to limit his alcohol intake. “Overdrinking. I don't drink all the time, but I do love a glass of wine, and it's very difficult to just stop at one or two,” he told the Guardian on Saturday. “If I overdrink, I don't feel good about myself.” Jason struggled with substance abuse in the 1990s, and has previously admitted he took three grams of cocaine a day. “In the 1990s I was so selfish, I wouldn't really have noticed what was going on,” he wrote in his memoir, Between The Lines: My Story Uncut. After kicking his drug habit in the late 90s, Jason, now 55, was able to re-establish his career. He has since appeared in several stage shows including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and a reprisal of his role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat, after he first appeared in the lead role in 1994. Jason recently appeared alongside Kylie Minogue in the last-ever episode of Neighbours, the soap that made them both famous between 1986 and 1989. The former partners appeared as their original characters from the soap, Scott and Charlene.
