NewsJuly, 28 Travis Tritt leads tributes for gospel stars who perished in plane crashCountry singer Travis Tritt has led tributes for the three members of Southern Gospel group The Nelons, who died in a plane crash on the weekend. "Very sad news! My heart goes out to all The Nelons family, friends and fans," he wrote on X. TV actor and bluegrass musician Randall Franks also posted a moving message: "Heartbroken - The Nelons plane crash going to Gaither Homecoming Cruise. Prayers for all." One of the most beloved families in gospel music, The Nelons were involved in a fatal plane crash while on their way to Alaska. Killed in the crash were Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, their daughter Amber and husband Nathan Kistler and their assistant, Melodi Hodges, along with the pilot, Larry Haynie and his wife, Melissa. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the accident. Autumn, Jason and Kelly's youngest daughter, and her husband, Jamie Streetman, were not on the plane. Autumn - who also performs in the Grammy Award-nominated group - confirmed the death of her parents and sister on Instagram. She thanked fans for their support hours after the fatal crash. "Thank you for the prayers that have been extended already to me, my husband, Jamie, and our soon-to-be-born baby boy." Rex Nelon, the father of Kelly Nelon Clark, founded the group in the 1970s. They were inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2016. Nominated for 35 GMA Dove Awards throughout their career, the group most recently won Country/Bluegrass/Roots Recorded Song of the Year in 2021 for If God Pulled Back The Curtain. Kelly was also an actress and appeared in the ABC fantasy drama Resurrection.
