The Script's Danny O'Donoghue engaged to girlfriend Anais Niang

Danny O'Donoghue is engaged to marry his girlfriend Anais Niang.

The Script frontman got down on one knee and popped the question to his girlfriend of four years during a hike up a mountain in Norway earlier this month.

"We hiked up to the top of a mountain to face the most beautiful waterfall in the world, The Seven Sisters. It's our favourite place on earth," he told The Sun. "I nearly passed out from exhaustion carrying up all the champagne, glasses and food for if she said yes. I had to do it all without her knowing."

The 43-year-old Irish singer met the French events manager in London during the Covid-19 lockdown and they went public with their romance in late 2021.

Last week, he told Irish newspaper Sunday World that she was "the one".

"When you know, you know... I knew when it wasn't right, but now I know whatever that is, that it's one hundred per cent right," he gushed. "She's great. I met her during Covid and if you've been with anybody through Covid it's like you compress ten years into those years.

"You learn everything, all the good bits, mostly the bad bits, and if you get through those moments... I don't know if it's a rite of passage, if you've made it through those few years then you know."

Their relationship has inspired songs on The Script's new album Satellites, which was released on Friday.

It marks their first album since their bandmate Mark Sheehan died in April 2023 at the age of 43 after a brief illness.
