NewsAugust, 14 Demi Lovato plans to ban daughter from early music careerDemi Lovato has plans to prevent her future children from following in her child star footsteps. The 31-year-old singer and actress burst into the spotlight in 2008 when she played Mitchie Torres in the Disney smash film Camp Rock. But Demi endured mental trauma while acting in her youth and later struggled with alcohol and drug dependency as well as her mental health. Interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter, Demi was asked what advice she would give a daughter if she wished to follow in her footsteps. The Confident singer said, "I'd say, 'Let's study music theory and prepare you for the day you turn 18, because it's not happening before that. Not because I don't believe in you or love you or want you to be happy, but because I want you to have a childhood, the childhood that I didn't have'." She added, "'And also, let's come up with a backup plan,' which is something I wish I'd done because sometimes I think it's time for me to move on, but I'm in this weird position in my career because I still rely on music for my income." Reflecting on her child stardom, Demi revealed she blacked out some of her youth as she became so consumed by work after the release of Camp Rock. She explained, "I think I'd passed the threshold of what I could withstand emotionally and physically. And I didn't realize that child stardom could be traumatic - and it isn't traumatic for everyone, but for me, it was."
