Nick Cave discusses the tragic deaths of his two sons

Nick Cave has candidly opened up about the tragic death of two of his children over the past 10 years.

The 66-year-old Australian musician was devastated in 2015 when his 15-year-old son, Arthur, died after falling off a cliff in England.

There was further heartbreak for the singer in 2022 when his eldest child, Jethro, died at the age of 31.

The star is opening up about his losses in a new edition of ABC's Australian Story, with a promo clip showing the Where the Wild Roses Grow singer commenting, "I'm sorry this is actually quite difficult to talk about."

He is also shown saying of loss, "That idea that art trounces everything, it just doesn't apply to me any more. There was this kind of rushing in of meaning that came into that void."

The full interview is due to air on Australia's ABC channel on Mondays at 8pm AEDT.

Nick previously addressed his grief in an interview with The Guardian, explaining, "I think it's something that people who lose children feel regardless of the situation, simply because the one thing you're supposed to do is not let your children die.

"Forget that. The one thing you're supposed to do is protect your children."

Nick married Brazilian journalist Viviane Carneiro in 1990 and they welcomed a son named Luke in 1991 - but the couple divorced in 1996.

He also welcomed his son Jethro, who arrived 10 months before Luke, in 1991 with ex-girlfriend Beau Lazenby and Jethro tragically died in May 2022 after being released from jail and soon after being diagnosed as schizophrenic.

Nick and his second wife, Susie Bick, who he married in 1999, welcomed twin sons Arthur and Earl in 2000, and Arthur tragically died in 2015.
