The 73-year-old music icon is widely considered one of the greatest drummers of all time - but decades of bashing the drum skins has taken a toll on his hands, legs and body. Speaking to Drumeo in 2022 - but the interview has only been released now in a documentary titled Phil Collins: Drummer First - the star explained he is still adjusting to being unable to use the instrument. He told the cameras, "If I can't do what I did as well as I did it, I'd rather relax and not do anything. "If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks, then I'll have a crack of it. But I just feel like I've used up my air miles." "It's still kind of sinking in a bit," the maestro added of his health. "I've spent all my life playing drums. To be suddenly not be able to do that is a shock." His son Nic Collins also features in the documentary and shares further information about the Genesis star's health issues. He revealed his father required a "big surgery on his neck that stemmed from all those years playing drums and bad posture." He also said the drum master suffered drop-foot, a condition where "one of his feet has no sensation," leaving him with the need to use a cane.
