NewsOctober, 2 Mariah Carey responds to criticism of her dance ability![]() Mariah Carey has addressed the ongoing criticism over her lack of dancing during her live shows. The Fantasy hitmaker has often come under scrutiny over the lack of choreography in her performances, and the criticism reared its head again last month when she was accused of doing the "bare minimum" during her medley at the MTV Video Music Awards. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live on Wednesday night, host Andy Cohen asked Mariah what she made of the long-running critique about her lack of choreography, and she once again acknowledged that dancing isn't one of her strengths. "From when I first started, I was like, 'Oh, I don't know how I'm gonna do this because really I have no idea what this dancing thing is,'" she replied. "I don't know what it is. I still don't, you know. There's little moments in the Honey video or Heartbreaker, little stuff, (but) it's no Ginger and Rogers (Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire). It's just something I was never taught and was kind of traumatised about as a kid." Her comments come weeks after viewers took to social media to express their disappointment in her lacklustre performance at the MTV VMAs, during which she was honoured with the Video Vanguard Award. They mocked her stiff movements and claimed she was "giving absolutely nothing", with one fan joking, "Mariah Carey is saving her energy for Christmas and that's okay." She faced similar criticisms in June, when fans slammed her performance of her song Type Dangerous at the BET Awards, with one viewer calling her "the most boring entertainer I've ever seen".
