Horne's gowns go under-the-hammer

Jazz star and actress Lena Horne's gowns, jewellery, artwork and books are being sold off.

The late singer's estate is auctioning more than 200 items that filled her Manhattan apartment.

Among the lots at the Doyle New York auction house are a sequinned evening coat and abstract painting by artist Charles Alston.

A reversible mink coat by Lena's favourite designer, Giorgio di Sant' Angelo, is also set to go under-the-hammer.

The singer, dancer and civil rights activist, whose signature song was Stormy Weather, died last May aged 92.
