Adele holds top places in charts

Adele continued to top both the singles and albums charts this week, the Official Charts Company said.

Someone Like You has now been number one in the singles chart for four weeks, with sales soaring after Adele's acclaimed Brit Awards performance of the song.

Her second album 21 has now been top of the albums chart for seven weeks, and held off competition from Elbow's acclaimed new album, Build A Rocket Boys!

The singer-songwriter became the first living artist since the Beatles to have two top five hits in both the Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart simultaneously when Someone Like You leapt up the charts.

Adele's debut album 19 stayed at number four this week. Her other top 40 singles, Rolling In The Deep, and Bob Dylan cover Make You Feel My Love, fell to number nine and number 33.

The top five in the singles charts was largely unchanged, with Jessie J featuring B.O.B's Price Tag at two, Rihanna's S&M at three, and Lady Gaga's Born This Way at four.

There was a new entry at five for American rapper Wiz Khalifa with Black and Yellow.

Elbow's Build A Rocket Boys!, their fifth studio album, was a new entry at two in the albums chart. Who You Are, the first album from BBC Sound of 2011 winner Jessie J, slipped to number three.

The second highest new entry was Collapse Into Now by REM, their 15th new album on their 30th anniversary. Noah & The Whale were new in at eight with Last Night On Earth and Avril Lavigne was new in at nine with Goodbye Lullaby.
