Rockers knock Adele off top spot

American rockers Foo Fighters have toppled Adele from her record-breaking stint at the Number One spot in the album charts.

Wasting Light, the new album from Dave Grohl's band, pushed Adele's 21 down to number two, while her album 19 remained at number three.

21 made pop history by spending the past 11 weeks at the top of the charts.

Other new entries included Glee - The Music - Vol 5 by Glee Cast at number four and Paper Airplane by Alison Krauss & Union Station at number 11.

Party Rock Anthem, by LMFAO featuring Lauren Bennet and Goonrock, moved up another place this week to take the top spot in the singles chart, knocking On The Floor by Jennifer Lopez ft Pitbull down to number two.

The highest new entry in the singles chart was Judas by Lady Gaga at number 14.

Adele's ballad Make You Feel My Love also finally dropped out of the singles chart this week after 53 weeks. The singer still had two other songs in the chart.

The Official Charts Company said that Foo Fighters' Wasting Light posted first-week sales of more than 114,000, ahead of Adele's 21 on just over 107,000.

Wasting Light is Foo Fighters' seventh full-length studio album and is their third Official Albums Chart number one following Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, in 2007, and One By One, in 2002. The band has sold 4.5 million albums in the UK alone.

Adele's two albums in the charts have combined sales this week of more than 140,000. Both albums have recorded total sales of over a million, with 21 fast approaching the two million benchmark.
