Wombles reform for Glastonbury gig

The nation's favourite eco-warriors, The Wombles, are set to recycle their careers as they perform together for the first time in years at Glastonbury Festival.

Great Uncle Bulgaria and the gang, who had hits in the '70s, are reforming to play the Avalon Stage at Glastonbury on June 26.

All four of their gold disc-achieving albums plus the soundtrack to the 1977 film Wombling Free are to be re-released ahead of their performance.

The five-piece had a string of Top 10 hits in the 1970s, including such songs as Remember You're A Womble before they finally split in 1976.

The band was based on the children's TV programme about fictional pointy-nosed, furry creatures that live in burrows, where they help the environment by collecting and recycling rubbish in useful and ingenious ways.

They were usually found scuttling about on Wimbledon Common and featured in a total of five novels by the writer Elisabeth Beresford.

The furry five will appear alongside Barenaked Ladies, KT Tunstall and Newton Faulkner.
