Ailing Gregg Allman cancels shows

US rock legend Gregg Allman has cancelled his tour dates between August 26 and September 15 for health reasons.

The Tribune-Democrat of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, said his performance at the AmeriServ Flood City Music Festival on Saturday may have been one of the last chances for fans in the region to see Gregg and his band, The Bridge.

Gregg, who was married to Cher and had a son with her, was a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band who had hits with Ramblin' Man, Midnight Rider, Jessica and Ain't Wastin' Time No More.

The newspaper said Jambands.com reported that the 64-year-old will require several days of hospital treatment and four to six weeks of bed rest. Gregg suffers from an upper respiratory condition.

The paper also said The Bridge are splitting up at the end of the year because of financial difficulties.

Festival marketing manager Shelley Johansson said: "It just makes me more grateful that he was here and put on such a wonderful performance."
