Lil Wayne hurt in skateboard fall

Rapper Lil Wayne is recovering after gashing his head at a US skateboard park.

The 28-year-old rapper was in suburban St. Louis on Sunday for a performance at the outdoor Verizon Amphitheatre. KTVI-TV reported that Lil Wayne, accompanied by a large entourage, showed up at DePaul Health Centre's emergency room.

A hospital spokeswoman would not confirm that Lil Wayne was at the hospital, citing privacy laws. But Lil Wayne tweeted on Monday that he suffered a gash over his left eye that required nine stitches.

Lil Wayne's album The Carter III won the 2008 Grammy Award for best rap album. His latest, The Carter IV, will be in stores on August 29.
