Eliza to play at Olympic Truce gig
Eliza Doolittle will perform at a pop concert to round off a day of events to promote peace and the London 2012 Olympic Truce.
Razorlight will also take to the stage, with words from speakers including Hollywood film star Jude Law, for the Peace One Day concert at south-east London's O2 Arena.
It is part of a programme of events and tasks set up to help young people learn about the ancient Olympic Truce in their schools and neighbourhoods.
The tradition originated in the ninth century BC, at the Olympics in Greece, when a truce was called to help athletes travel to and from the Games safely.
It was reintroduced to the modern Olympic Games in 1992 with the aim of using sport to help promote conflict resolution and to build bridges between communities.
The learning drive, marking the United Nations International Day of Peace, is part of London 2012's Get Set education network and has got the thumbs up from International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge.
He said: "I would like to praise the initiative of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games which, through this programme, fulfils the vision of the Olympic Truce."
