NewsOctober, 4 Jessie J joins BBC's singing showJessie J is the first act to sign up as a coach for what is being seen as the BBC's answer to The X Factor. The singer, whose hits include Price Tag and Do It Like A Dude, will be one of four star names who will mentor contestants on The Voice UK. The series, which has already been a hit in the US, will launch in the spring on BBC One. In the show, contestants will win through purely on the strength of their voices rather than how they look, with "blind" auditions. The BBC said: "There's no room for comedy performances or people who rely on looks to get them through - this is the first talent show that focuses on what really matters when you're a singer - it's all about the voice." Jessie won the critics choice award at the Brits earlier this year and has had a UK number one with Price Tag. She has recently been in a cast after suffering a foot injury during rehearsals which led to several shows being cancelled during the summer and she has subsequently had a bone graft. She said: "I'm excited to be a coach, inspiration and mentor and I jumped at the opportunity as it's all about the voice." BBC One controller Danny Cohen said: "Jessie J is going to be an amazing coach on The Voice UK. She's a massive young star with a strong personality, and her recent Mobo nominations are testament to her musical and creative ability." The US version of the show has featured Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green as coaches. Lenny Kravitz is among those said to be in the running for for the BBC version, which is expected to be screened on a Saturday evening.
