New entries take number one spots

New entries stormed to the top of the charts, taking number one in the singles and album top 40s.

Nicki Minaj took top spot in the UK album chart with Pink Friday - Roman Reloaded, according to the Official Charts Company.

The Trinidadian-born American musician's second studio album knocked Madonna off the top spot. Her album MDNA entered the chart at number one last week, sending the singer into the record books. But the star's 12th chart-topping album was pushed down to seventh place this week.

Minaj's was not the only new entry to hit the top 10. Labrinth, whose hit collaboration with rapper Tinie Tempah Pass Out reached number one in 2010, went straight in at number two with his debut studio album Electronic Earth.

Music Rox by Moshi Monsters, also a new entry, hit the charts at number four while a fourth new offering, Weapons by Welsh rock band Lostprophets, debuted at number nine.

Top spot in the singles chart was also taken by a brand new entry - Canadian songstress Carly Rae Jepsen, who came third in Canadian Idol in 2007, entered at number one with Call Me Maybe.

The song has already proved a hit on YouTube with more than 17 million views. The Official Charts Company said Jepsen's Call Me Maybe has become the fastest-selling single of 2012 to date, crashing past the 100,000 sales mark.

Sean Paul held the number two spot in the singles chart with She Doesn't Mind, but Chris Brown's Turn Up The Music, which debuted at number one last week, slipped to number five.

Katy Perry, number one the previous week, slipped even further down the top 10, to number six with Part Of Me.

Australian-Belgian singer-songwriter Gotye, who spent five weeks at the top of the charts with smash hit Somebody That I Used To Know, featuring Kimbra, saw a resurgence in popularity, rising from number five to number three this week.
