Adele retains album chart top spot

Singer-songwriter Adele and Canadian star Carly Rae Jepsen have held on to their number one spots in the album and singles charts respectively, according to the Official Charts Company.

Adele, who recently picked up a string of nominations for the Ivor Novello Awards, stayed in pole position with 21, the biggest selling release of last year.

The record is in the running for Best Album, while Rolling In The Deep was nominated for Best Song Musically and Lyrically at the annual awards.

Carly Rae earned a third week at the top with Call Me Maybe, a catchy song that has attracted more than 32 million views on YouTube. She came third in Canadian Idol in 2007,

Conor Maynard, 19, from Brighton was the highest newcomer in the singles chart with his debut track Can't Say No taking second spot.

In third place was We Are Young by US indie pop band Fun, up four places from last week.

R&B star John Legend took the number four spot after Ordinary People rose from 27, while Laserlight by Jessie J also climbed significantly, from 26 to 5.

American singer-songwriter Jason Mraz entered the albums chart at number two with Love Is A Four Letter Word.

Pink Friday - Roman Reloaded, the second studio album by Trinidadian-born Nicki Minaj, fell one place down to three.

Lana Del Rey took fourth spot with Born To Die, while Who You Are by Jessie J was number five.
