Adele's manager is best ... at tea

Adele has handed a prize to her manager at a major music bash - and admitted she signed with him because he made a good cup of tea.

The Someone Like You star was a surprise guest at the Music Week Awards in London to hand over the manager of the year trophy to Jonathan Dickins, who has guided her career.

The chart superstar was famously interrupted as she tried to make her acceptance speech at the Brit Awards when organisers told presenter James Corden to wind her up.

But she stepped back on to an awards stage last night without any disruption from comic Greg Davies, who was hosting the show, and paid tribute to Dickins for his expertise.

He impressed her so much that she immediately agreed to sign up with him six years ago, even though he was the first manager she had met.

The singer - who turns 24 early next month - said she opted for him because "he made me laugh and he made a great cup of tea".

"I only met him and I made my mind up I wanted him to manage me. And thank God I did because he's gone on to smash it. We're all really proud of you. Thanks for being a great manager," Adele told him.

Dickins - who comes from a music business family - was guiding the careers of Jack Penate and Tom Vek at the time he signed her.

Adele's label XL Recordings was named label of the year and picked up three other prizes.

BBC2's Later ...With Jools Holland was named best TV music show and BBC 6 Music's Steve Lamacq picked up the best radio show prize. HMV was named best high street music retailer.
