Ditto thanks fans in emotional gig

Beth Ditto encouraged her fans to "be proud" of who they are as she played a sold-out gig in London.

The Gossip frontwoman, who showed off her curves in a figure-hugging sequinned dress, may have been 30 minutes late before she took to the stage at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire with drummer Hannah Blilie and guitarist Brace Paine, but the 2,000 strong crowd quickly forgave them as they launched into a lively rendition of Love Long Distance, from their 2009 album Music For Men.

The indie-rockers played a selection of hits from their back catalogue, including Yesterday's News from their 2003 album Movement, and songs from their latest record A Joyful Noise.

Beth, 31 - who changed into a black slip dress for the encore - dedicated one of their well-known tracks to the "sisterhood", and their final hit Standing In The Way Of Control was emotionally charged and a real crowd favourite.

The Arkansas-born singer, who is openly gay, was the consummate entertainer, constantly thanking the fans for their support and kept pointing out friends in the audience, including The Raincoats founding member Ana Da Silva.

Gossip are set to play a series of festivals around Europe this summer, including the Roskilde Festival in Denmark, followed by France's Festival Beauregard, Serbia's Exit Festival and Germany's Melt Festival.
