NewsJuly, 31 Drake, Rihanna lead MTV VMA nods![]() Rihanna and Drake are leading the charge at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, with five nominations each. The former flames are up for Video of the Year for their joint hit Take Care, while Drake received additional nods in the Best Male Video, Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography categories for their collaboration. The Canadian rapper also faces Kanye West, Jay-Z and Nicki Minaj in the Best Hip Hop Video (HYFR) field. Rihanna has a second chance to win best video with We Found Love, which is also nominated for Best Female Video and Best Pop Video, with her single Where Have You Been recognised in the Best Choreography and Best Visual Effects categories. Katy Perry trails behind with four nominations, including Video of the Year, Best Female Video, Best Art Direction and Best Visual Effects. Justin Bieber is up for two awards - Best Male Video and Best Pop Video - and Carly Rae Jepsen's hit Call Me Maybe has got her a nod in the Best New Artist category alongside British boybands One Direction and The Wanted, as well as Fun and Frank Ocean. Four-time VMA award-winner Alicia Keys, premiering a new song from her upcoming album, and One Direction - who have two nominations - will perform at the star-studded ceremony for the first time. "Debuting a new song at the VMAs is definitely special. It's the perfect setting. It's the right energy. It's the right vibe. I can't wait!" Alicia said. The MTV Video Music Awards will take place at Los Angeles' Staples Centre on September 6.
