Furtado: Promo work is draining

Nelly Furtado has revealed that she often thinks about quitting music - because of the promotional commitments.

Following her public breakdown in 2007, the Canadian songstress admitted she sometimes struggles to combine pop stardom with being a mum to eight-year-old daughter Nevis. She previously considered ending her career after the releases of her Spanish language album Mi Plan in 2009 and 2010's The Best Of.

"I go through a phase like that every once in a while. I love the music and I love making it, but I don't love the promotional side because it's draining creatively. It's like being a hamster on a wheel with no time to get off," she told the Daily Mirror.

"But I usually work through those emotions, and what pulls me back is the music. They say you are never more pure than when you write your first album, but I feel I've lived a whole lifetime in the 12 years since it was recorded."

Nelly, whose fourth album The Spirit Indestructible is out on September 17, admitted she never thought she would still be making music.

"I really thought it was a temporary thing, that I'd make one, maybe two albums and then go back to university. I think my teenage self would be surprised to find out I still don't have the university degree!"
