Missy Elliott explains long break

Missy Elliott has said that the reason she has not released an album for so long is because she wanted to make sure any new music was up to scratch.

Her last album, The Cook Book, came out in 2005 and according to Digital Spy she explained to Yahoo why she was only now working towards releasing its follow up.

She said: "I don't just throw out microwave records. When you are creating to the magnitude that I try to create, your brain is like a computer and you need to refresh."

She added: "Things happen in your life and then you can write something else instead of the same three topics - like, how many times can we write about the clubs?"

The new album is currently titled Block Party but has no release date as yet.

However, Missy Elliott hasn't taken a complete break from music - she guested on a remix of Katy Perry's Last Friday Night in 2012 and on Little Mix's How Ya Doin'? in 2013.
