Jones: Jackson album about money

Quincy Jones has said the release of Michael Jackson's new posthumous album is all "about money".

The music mogul, who produced several of the late King of Pop's albums, suggested Xscape - which features previously unheard tracks and has gone straight to the top of the album chart - was released for financial reasons, reported Billboard.

He spoke out in an interview with radio station CBC, saying: "They're trying to make money. And I understand it. Everybody's after money, the estate, the lawyers. It's about money."

Xscape features eight previously unavailable songs originally recorded between 1983 and 1999, which have been given extra sparkle by well-known producers such as Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins and Stargate.

The boss of Epic Records in the US, LA Reid, was given unlimited access to a collection of recordings on which the singer had completed his vocals and then brought in a series of studio wizards to rework the songs.

Asked if he was bothered by the ongoing release of recordings featuring Jackson, Grammy-winner Quincy, 81, said: "Yeah, but it's not my business any more. They're not our business."

Jackson died in June 2009 as a result of an overdose of the anaesthetic propofol as he prepared to make a live comeback with a string of shows at London's O2 Arena.
