Kanye halts gig as fans don't stand

Kanye West has found himself in hot water after refusing to carry on with a show until everyone was on their feet - only to discover one fan was in a wheelchair.

The outspoken rapper was performing one of his Yeezus concerts in Sydney and demanded that the audience get up and dance, with a source telling Daily Mail Australia that Kanye told the crowd: "I can't do this show until everybody stand up. Unless you got a handicap pass, and you get special parking and s**t."

One person waved a prosthetic limb in the air to show why she couldn't join in, and the rapper quickly said: "OK, you fine."

However, at least one fan still didn't stand and Kanye started urging him to get on his feet, apparently not realising he was disabled.

Kanye wouldn't perform while the fan was still sitting and said: "This is the longest I've had to wait to do a song. It's unbelievable."

He asked the audience whether the concert-goer in question was in a wheelchair and some reports suggest he sent a bodyguard into the crowd to check it out.

"Is he in a wheelchair?" Kanye is said to have asked, pointing to one section of the Qantas Credit Union Arena.

"Now, if he is in a wheelchair, it's fine," he went on.

Once Kanye, 37, had established that the fan was unable to stand, he continued with his performance of Good Life.

Disability campaigners have called on the star to apologise for his actions, the Herald Sun reported.

Craig Wallace, of People With Disability Australia, told Confidential: "To call out people for not standing up, when they are disabled and cannot stand up, in front of thousands of people, is humiliating. What if it was a young person who's coming to terms with their disability?

"It's arrogant to say every person in the audience needs to stand up just because you tell them to."

He continued: "Asking disabled people to show their handicap pass is patronising and inappropriate. He should apologise. Kanye West would also benefit from disability awareness training."
