The Greatest Day for Take That fans at the Apple Music Festival

Take That had 2,000 jubilant fans waving their hands in their air in synchronisation to their 1995 hit Never Forget as the curtain came down on the second night of the Apple Music Festival.

Some followers of the three-piece boy band camped outside The Roundhouse in Camden from 3.45am on Sunday to get their hands on the last few tickets available on the door.

Four songs into the 15-tune set, which featured both old and new hits, Howard Donald said: “This gig is like a thank you for all the supporters of Take That.”

“Thanks everyone for all your support over the years.”

The band, which also includes Gary Barlow and Mark Owen, opened their hour-long performance with Shine, and also sang favourites including Greatest Day, The Flood, Relight My Fire and Back For Good.

Before singing Patience, Gary said: “This is the song that brought us back after all those years.”

He later added: “This is a beautiful, intimate venue – we don’t get to play these places enough.”

“It is so nice to have you so close.”

The impressive stage set, beamed to millions of viewers around the world via Apple TV, included giant glitter balls and plenty of disco lights.

During the performance, the trio showed off their musical talents, including piano playing by Gary and guitar by Mark. They also showcased their classic boy band synchronised dancing.

Laura Hyams travelled from Bishop Stortford and met fellow super-fan Ali Adams from Bromley to set up camp just before 4am.

Laura, a member of the Red Roomies secret Facebook fan page who has seen the boy band more than 50 times including 19 times this year, said: “We got here at 3.45am with our tent and sleeping bags. It was definitely worth it – it was amazing.”

Another audience member Tom Eames from London said: “Considering it was an intimate gig they did put on a good show.

“As a lifelong Take That fan I was hoping for a lot of old as well as new and we got that.”

Steven Tiller, also from London, was with fellow fan Georgia Roberts from Bristol, who was shaking and holding back “happy tears” at the end of the show.

He said: “My highlight was Never Forget. There’s something really special about seeing 2,000 people with their hands in their air in unison.”

There are eight nights left of the Apple Music Festival, which offered fans the opportunity to win free tickets to see their favourite performers.

Pharrell Williams, Florence + The Machine and One Direction are some of the names still to perform.

Fans were pretty impressed, too.
