NewsMay, 26 Pink Floyd to be honoured by Royal Mail stampsRoyal Mail is set to issue 10 new stamps to mark 50 years since Pink Floyd turned professional. The iconic rock group established themselves as the 'house band' of the London Underground movement of music and arts, and are now about to be immortalised courtesy of the specially-designed stamps, which are available to pre-order at royalmail.com/pinkfloyd. Six of the stamps - which can be purchased from 8,000 Post Offices from July 7 - feature iconic album covers from 'The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn', 'Atom Heart Mother' and The Dark Side Of The Moon', as well as 'Wish You Were Here', 'Animals' and 'The Endless River'. The band is world-renowned for its innovative album covers, some of which have subsequently become iconic designs. Meanwhile, an additional four stamps within a miniature sheet have been designed to celebrate Pink Floyd as one of the most eye-catching live performers of all time. The band - who were formed in London by the original trio of bassist Roger Waters, drummer Nick Mason and keyboardist Rick Wright - are widely recognised for being one of the first rock groups to use light effects and film footage during their shows. However, this is not the first time Pink Floyd's cultural impact has been recognised by the Royal Mail, who, in 2010, produced a stamp of the 'Division Bell' album cover.
