NewsDecember, 12 David Beckham plays down son Cruz's pop careerDavid Beckham insists his 11-year-old son Cruz's pop career will always take a back seat to his education. Young Cruz Beckham hit headlines last week (ends09Dec16) when it emerged he had signed with Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun, just before the surprise release of his first song, If Every Day Was Christmas, the proceeds of which will benefit Global's Make Some Noise charity. The pre-teen's unexpected move split fans and critics alike, with some claiming Cruz is too young to launch a singing career, while others embraced the idea of the youngster following in his mum, former Spice Girls star Victoria's pop footsteps. One outspoken critic was TV personality Piers Morgan, who became embroiled in a Twitter feud with Scooter after accusing the music mogul of exploiting a child to boost his bank balance. Cruz's dad David has now spoken out about his little boy's new venture, revealing his son proposed the idea to his famous parents to help those in need over the festive season. Explaining how Scooter became involved, the retired soccer ace said, "We only realised that Cruz has a cute little voice about nine months ago and Scooter's been a family friend for a while, so he said, 'Bring him in, see if he enjoys it'. "We always hope that (our children) are listening to us or they're paying attention to us as parents, so we do a lot for charity, obviously. (I work with) UNICEF, and my wife does (work for) the U.N. (United Nations), and Cruz came to us very recently and said, 'How about I do a Christmas song for charity, and all the proceeds go to charity?'." The couple fully supported Cruz's sweet suggestion, but proud dad David doubts they will allow him to pursue a career as a child star just yet. "There's nothing more to this (his singing career) than that (charity single) at the moment," the father-of-four told U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America on Monday (12Dec16). "He's 11-years-old, he's still at school, he's concentrating at school, that's the most important thing, but he wanted to give back, and he's done this amazing little Christmas song which has got a lot of attention. We're very proud of him because he came to us with the idea, so it's kinda cool, and he's having fun."
