Justin Timberlake's lawyer argues singer was 'not drunk' during DWI arrest

Justin Timberlake's lawyer has argued a case against him should be dismissed after he was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

The 43-year-old Mirrors singer made headlines on 18 June when he was stopped in a vehicle by police in Sag Harbor, New York.

He was subsequently charged with one count of DWI and was issued two citations, one for driving past a stop sign and one for failing to remain in his car lane.

But the facts of the case are being hotly disputed by the Grammy Award winner's legal team.

The Independent quotes Timberlake's lawyer, Edward Burke, telling reporters outside court on Friday, "He was not intoxicated. I'll say it again. Justin Timberlake was not intoxicated."

The Daily Mail reports the lawyer argued the case should be thrown out, telling the court, "The police made a number of very significant errors in this case.

"In court today, you heard the district attorney try to fix one of those errors. But that's just one and there are many others. Sometimes the police make mistakes and this is just one of those instances."

Burke accused prosecutors of failing to, "get a superior officer's signature on the initial charging papers - and therefore the case should be dropped."

Timberlake's humiliation of being arrested was made all the worse when it transpired the young officer arresting him had no idea who he was.

The singer, who is now in the midst of his The Forget Tomorrow World Tour reportedly muttered "This is going to ruin the tour," in front of the officer.

When the officer asked, "What tour?" he was reportedly told by Timberlake, "The world tour."

The Forget Tomorrow World Tour is due to end at the end of the year with a final show marked for 20 December in Kansas City.
