Katy Perry to receive Video Vanguard Award at 2024 MTV VMAs

Katy Perry is to be honoured with the Video Vanguard Award at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.

The Firework hitmaker will receive the prize - which is presented to artists in recognition of their outstanding contributions and impact on music video and popular culture - and perform a medley of her hits during the show.

In a statement, Paramount executive Bruce Gillmer called Katy a "global phenomenon".

"Katy is a musical powerhouse and true pop culture icon. With her game changing creative vision, she has become a global phenomenon and taken over the world's biggest stages," he praised. "Katy's prowess will be on full display live on the VMAs with a can't-miss, career-encompassing performance celebrating her biggest moments and chart-topping hits."

Previous Vanguard Award recipients include Madonna, Janet Jackson, LL Cool J, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Beyoncé, and Nicki Minaj.

Katy has not yet commented on the news.

However, the Video Vanguard Award comes at a good time, as she has recently hit headlines amid claims that her team didn't receive authorisation to film the Lifetimes video on a beach in Spain's Balearic Islands.

Katy's seventh studio album, 143, is set to be released on 20 September.

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards will be held at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York on 11 September. Taylor Swift is set to dominate the prizegiving, having landed 10 nominations.
