Janet Jackson and Eminem nominated for Songwriters Hall of Fame

Janet Jackson and Eminem are among the music stars to receive nominations for the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

On Tuesday, officials announced the nominees for the next round of inductions into the prestigious institution, which is "dedicated to recognising and celebrating the exceptional work and lives of composers and lyricists".

Alongside the All for You hitmaker and Without Me rapper, other stars to be nominated in the performing songwriters category for the class of 2025 include Bryan Adams, Boy George, George Clinton, Sheryl Crow, the Doobie Brothers, David Gates, Tommy James, Mike Love, Alanis Morissette, Dr. Dre, the late Eazy-E, Ice Cube, MC Ren and DJ Yella of hip-hop group N.W.A., and Steve Winwood.

While songwriters in the non-performing category include Mariah Carey collaborator Walter Afanasieff, Mike Chapman, Sonny Curtis, Tom Douglas, Franne Golde, Ashley Gorley, Rodney 'Darkchild' Jerkins, Tony Macaulay, Roger Nichols, Narada Michael Walden.

There are also three sets of songwriting partners in the running; Steve Barri and P.F. Sloan, Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter, as well as Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham.

A songwriter with a catalogue of notable songs qualifies for induction 20 years after their first significant commercial release of a track.

Eligible voting members have until 22 December to turn in their ballots, with the winners to be announced at the 2025 Induction & Awards Gala in New York City on a yet-to-be-confirmed date.

Nile Rodgers has served as chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame since 2017.
