Matty Healy reflects on row with Azealia Banks

Matty Healy has reflected on his recent row with Azealia Banks.

The 1975 star has addressed his public spat with Banks, which began after she took to X on Tuesday to criticise his friend and collaborator Charli XCX, who is also engaged to his bandmate George Daniel.

In her original tweet, Azaelia shared a clip of Charli's 2014 track Break The Rules and wrote, "Charli used to be soooo pretty. Ugh."

Matty quickly came to his friend's defence, claiming the 212 rapper was just "jealous" and writing, "You're so talented but everything else about you is a failure. Just rap bro."

The feud escalated when Azealia compared Charli to Frankenstein, but the British singer took it a step further by threatening to slap Azealia "so hard".

The Somebody Else singer quickly returned to X to apologise for his comments, before adding, "You just can't keep being so mean about my mates and my mrs it's really hurtful gets me well defensive."

Matty has since reflected on his words, explaining that he feels "dreadful" about his behaviour towards the rapper.

"I have worked so hard to move past these impulsive self destructive and honestly quite volatile outbursts I have," he penned in a Reddit post. "I'm constantly making trouble for myself for no reason, I come back to social media after depressive episodes (which is NOT an excuse) because I often become sober, so as an addict when I'm not using I pick up social media my new way of 'consuming' and changing how I feel."

He continued, "I just feel dreadful about how I acted violent - I think Azealia and all obvious flawed people all deep down have a heart and I hate that I have contributed to her mental fragility. She's a human."

The singer went on to admit he was "embarrassed" and insisted he wanted to use his music to create positivity.
