Rihanna refuses to let her fame keep her locked at home away from the public eye. Although they are often surrounded by fans and paparazzi whenever they go out in public, the global superstar and her rapper boyfriend A$AP Rocky don't want to live in isolation and try to live as normal lives as possible. Rihanna explained to Harper's Bazaar that they can achieve this better in New York, where they can mix with the public more easily and go to restaurants and bars like everyone else. "We like to eat with people. We like to shop with people. We like to walk the streets with people. I don't like a private room. I don't have them shut down stores," she stated. "I don't like the Rapunzel life. It's very isolating. It's very lonely. And what am I protecting myself from? I'm actually allowing people to dictate the robbery of the life that I could actually be living." The couple, who are often spotted at bars and karaoke spots, try to live their lives like nobody's watching, even if that's not the case. "That's a big thing for us and actually a really big thing for him," Rihanna shared. "He always reminds me, no matter how hard everything is that we're dealing with in our life, in our careers and as parents, he's like, 'Remember when we were friends? Remember when we just used to have fun as friends?'" Rihanna and Rocky began dating in 2020 after being friends for many years. They are now parents to sons RZA and Riot, born in 2022 and 2023, respectively. She added that she now prioritises spending money on making memories instead of possessions. "I'm even in the space of not even spending my money on things, but I'll spend my money on an experience," the singer explained. "Somebody could rob me right now of everything I have, (but) they will never take a memory, an experience, a feeling, a scent that reminded me of that moment. There's just things that mean more when you grow up."
