NewsMarch, 2 Chappell Roan dedicates BRIT award to drag queens, trans artists and Sinead O'Connor![]() Chappell Roan dedicated a BRIT Award to "trans artists, drag queens and Sinead O'Connor" during an emotional speech. The 27-year-old chart-topping star, whose real name is Kayleigh Amstutz, scooped two gongs at the 2025 BRIT Awards on Saturday night - winning Best International Song for her track Good Luck, Babe! and walking off with the International Artist of the Year award. While accepting the Best International Artist honour, the singer, who is lesbian, sounded emotional as she paid tribute to the LGBTQ+ community while accepting the statuette. She said, "Chappell Roan was born through experiencing queer joy. It's so special, I had to write an entire album about it." She continued, "I dedicate this to trans artists, to drag queens, to fashion students, sex workers, and Sinead O'Connor. Because of all those people - they have laid the groundwork for me to be here today. I did not give up because of them, and I will continue going because of them." Roan was not at the ceremony in London on Saturday night, which was held at the O2 Arena, and broadcast her acceptance speeches in pre-recorded video messages. When accepting her award for Best International Song, she said, "Artists deserve the freedom to write bad songs and to explore horrible concepts and to flop, and rise, and not be pressured into making music based off what's trending." On Sunday night she will take to the stage at Elton John's 33rd Annual AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Event as Hollywood celebrates the best in acting and film at the 2025 Oscars.
