Green Day cancel final show of Australian tour due to cyclone warning

Green Day have cancelled the final show of their Australian tour due to a cyclone warning.

The U.S. pop-punk band have been forced to scrap the final show of their Australian Saviors Tour, which was due to take place on Wednesday at Robina Stadium in Gold Coast, Queensland, due to Cyclone Alfred.

The group, made up of Billie Joe Armstrong, Tré Cool and Mike Dirnt, announced the news on their Instagram Stories on Tuesday.

"Hey Australia, unfortunately due to circumstances out of our control, tomorrow's Gold Coast show has been cancelled," they wrote.

"With Cyclone Alfred bringing some seriously nasty weather, it's just not possible to go ahead safely," the American Idiot hitmakers continued. "We know this is a huge disappointment, and we're just as bummed as you are. Stay safe out there!"

In a separate statement, Robina Stadium acknowledged the fans' disappointment, assuring them that the concert organisers had "explored every opportunity to go ahead with the event, but the safety and travel certainty of concert goers, performers and staff cannot be ensured under current conditions".

The tropical storm is expected to make landfall between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast on Thursday or Friday and could be one of the most destructive to hit the region in decades.

The Saviors Tour kicked off in May 2024 in support of their fourteenth studio album, Saviors. So far, the trek has taken them to Europe, the U.S., Canada, South Africa and Asia.

The rockers are next scheduled to play in Mumbai, India, on Saturday. The tour will wrap up in Ocean City, New Jersey, on 26 September.
