Reba McEntire and Sally Field Honour Dolly Parton

Reba McEntire and Sally Field Honour Dolly Parton

Reba McEntire and Sally Field paid tribute to the late Dolly Parton at the 2026 Emmy Awards on Monday night.

The ceremony took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, where the two women paused to honour the entertainment icon. Parton died last month at 80 after what was described as a brief battle with cancer.

Field, who appeared alongside Parton in Steel Magnolias, introduced the segment by calling her a real giant.

"If there are truly angels on Earth, we have just lost one," she said. She explained that although they lived far apart, her affection never faded, and that she had adored Parton from the very beginning. Field remembered her as genuine, humble, supportive and fiercely funny, with a bawdy sense of humour that could send any rude man running for cover. Back then, she said, she could not yet see what a giant Parton was – not only as an artist but as a person.

Field, 79, also highlighted Parton's philanthropy, noting that her humanitarian work changed lives in her home state of Tennessee and well beyond. She closed with a blessing for her friend and said she would not be the only person on Earth to love her forever.

McEntire then performed Parton's 1983 song Appalachian Memories. When the tribute ended, the Reba star said simply, "I love you, Dolly. So much."

Later, McEntire turned to Instagram to remember her longtime friend. "I will always love and miss you, Dolly. What an honor to celebrate @DollyParton tonight," she wrote.
