Roger Waters Slams Ed Sheeran Over Tour Row

Roger Waters has taken aim at Ed Sheeran after Macklemore was pulled from the singer's tour over his pro-Palestine remarks.

The Pink Floyd veteran weighed in on the row that followed the decision to drop Macklemore as Sheeran's support act, after the rapper spoke in favour of Palestine at two shows earlier this month.

Waters, 83, who has long backed the Palestinian cause, posted a video message aimed at Sheeran on social media on Tuesday night, calling the clip "Ed Who?".

In the video, he told Sheeran there are two types of people in the world, naming Macklemore as someone who does the right thing, and describing people like Sheeran as doing the wrong thing before signing off with "Goodbye".

On Tuesday, the Shape of You star released a statement saying he was not behind the decision to remove the rapper from the tour.

"Macklemore coming off tour was the promoter's decision; it was not mine," he said, explaining that venue owners on his Loop Tour had threatened to cancel his shows if Macklemore stayed on the bill, and that he could not let down his fans.

He also said he was appalled by the conflict between Israel and Palestine, and that staying quiet should not be taken as complicity.

"I am not complicit. I have my personal views on this devastating conflict. Just because I choose not to speak publicly, it doesn't mean I don't have them, and it doesn't mean I don't care. Nor does it mean I don't support causes in my own, personal way," he wrote.

Hours later, the three remaining support acts – Finneas, Aaron Rowe and Lukas Graham – along with Sheeran's backing band Beoga, all withdrew from his forthcoming dates in solidarity with Macklemore.

The Loop Tour moves on to Philadelphia on 19 September. No replacement opener has been announced.
