NewsAugust, 14 LL Cool J to host 2025 MTV VMAs![]() LL Cool J is set to host the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. The veteran rapper and actor has been confirmed as the emcee of this year's edition of the annual awards show, which will take place at New York's UBS Arena on 7 September. This will mark LL's first time hosting the show solo. He previously co-hosted the 2022 VMAs alongside fellow artists Jack Harlow and Nicki Minaj. The rapper follows Megan Thee Stallion, who hosted last year's ceremony, and Minaj, who emceed in 2023. In addition to hosting, LL is also nominated for Best Hip-Hop for his single Murdergram Deaux, featuring Eminem, from his 2024 album The FORCE. LL, real name James Smith, is no stranger to the VMAs, having won the Best Rap Video award in 1991 for Mama Said Knock You Out and made history as the first rapper to receive the Video Vanguard Award in 1997. He also performed at the last two VMA broadcasts. Beyond the VMAs, the rapper has extensive hosting experience, having presented the iHeartRadio Music Awards, Soul Train Music Awards and American Music Awards in the past, as well as the Grammys for five consecutive years from 2012 to 2016. Lady Gaga leads this year's nominations with 12, closely followed by Bruno Mars with 11 and Kendrick Lamar with 10. Other top nominees include Sabrina Carpenter and Rosé with eight nods each, and Ariana Grande and The Weeknd, with seven each. The recipient of this year's Video Vanguard Award has yet to be announced.
