Kendrick Lamar's live action slave comedy delayed

Kendrick Lamar's upcoming live-action comedy film with the creators of South Park has been delayed again.

In early 2022, it was revealed that the rapper would be producing a comedy movie in collaboration with Matt Stone and Trey Parker.

The following year, it was confirmed that as well as producing, Parker would also direct the live-action film.

Since then, little information has been shared about the movie, except that it would be released on 4 July this year. But the film was then delayed until 20 March 2026.

Now, the movie has been pushed back again, and no new date has been set for its release.

"It's true - we're moving (again). We're working hard at finishing the movie," read a joint statement attributed to Stone and Parker's production banner Park County and Lamar's company PGLang, as reported by NME.

Virtually no information about the film has been shared, including its title or cast. The only information that has been made public is that the plot revolves around the past and present coming to a head when a young black man who is interning as a slave re-enactor at a living history museum discovers that his white girlfriend's ancestors once owned his.

News of his film's delay comes after Lamar was recently nominated for nine 2026 Grammy nominations for his sixth album GNX, which was released last November.
