NewsJuly, 23 Nivea reveals leukaemia diagnosis
Nivea has revealed she was diagnosed with leukaemia earlier this year. The Laundromat singer shared the news as she appeared on Cadillac Chronicles, hosted by Brian Freeman, earlier this week. When asked what she was most grateful for, Nivea revealed her positive attitude had helped her through the past few months of treatment. "Well, first of all, I was diagnosed with leukaemia earlier this year, and I'm so grateful to God," she explained. "I've been going through treatment, and everything is going great so far. And I expect it to continue. Amen, amen, amen." As the 44-year-old singer continued to discuss her health battle, she revealed the diagnosis had encouraged her to view life in a new light and appreciate the small things. "It's so cliché to say you don't know the time nor the hour, but it's true and it just helped me put a lot of things in perspective, and I live in gratitude, like, religiously, and I'm just grateful for everything," she added. While Nivea confirmed she has leukaemia, she didn't go into any further details about the type she has been diagnosed with. Leukaemia is defined as a group of blood cancers that originate in the bone marrow, where abnormal, immature cells multiply uncontrollably. Typical symptoms include fatigue, fever, bone pain, bruising easily and frequent infections. Elsewhere in the appearance, Nivea insisted she has no plans to slow down following the diagnosis and has been enjoying a renewed desire to experiment with music. "I'm doing things I wanna do," she shared. "I'm definitely back into my music, and I'm going to school for audio engineering. I've always wanted to learn how to engineer, and mixing engineering in particular." The Grammy-nominated artist, who has three children with ex-husband The-Dream and a son with former fiancé Lil Wayne, also vowed to spend more time with family. "(I'm) loving on my children, and just being grateful and taking every opportunity that comes my way," she explained.
