Musician Horn 'amazed' to get CBE

Trevor Horn, the record producer and musician, is collecting his CBE from the Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace.

Trevor, who masterminded chart-topping single Relax, which was banned by the BBC, and rebooted Robbie Williams's career, said he was "amazed" by his honour.

A nineteen-year-old Trevor, who was born in Stonebridge, Durham, entered the music business as a session player, working in the early days with disco star Tina Charles.

The prolific songwriter found success with friend Geoff Downes as The Buggles, known for their number one hit Video Killed The Radio Star, which has the distinction of being the first promo to be aired by MTV.

He became a familiar face in the pioneering video wearing outsize white-framed glasses.

He launched his own label ZTT, signing Frankie Goes To Hollywood, and went about rebuilding their song Relax to give it an epic sound.

The 61-year-old, who was also a member of Yes and The Art Of Noise, has also created hits for Tom Jones, Seal, Pet Shop Boys, Russian duo Tatu, LeAnn Rimes and Belle & Sebastian, and was behind Robbie Williams's solo album Reality Killed The Video Star.
